A Word on Mental Health

Most of my site leans toward the funny side (I think, anyway. If I’m wrong, please don’t tell me.), but this page is a serious note on a serious subject.

TRIGGER WARNING: The following letter references depression, self-harm, and suicide. If you are triggered by such things, you should prepare yourself before reading it. However, please know that it is full of helpful info and loving support.

Dearest Minion,

Sometimes the world seems like a lonely, dark, horrible place. Sometimes it can feel like you don’t fit in anywhere and no one understands you. Life can sometimes seem like a terrible thing to endure, but you don’t have to endure it alone. If you are reading this page, then that means that you are part of something very special. You are a Minion – a member of the Minion Horde – and I love you. Deeply. Madly. Truly. My Minions are the wind beneath my tattered wings, and it is because of that that I have created this page, just for you.

I know what it feels like to struggle with suicidal ideation, to resist the urge to self-harm, to battle against the dark void of depression. To put it simply, it sucks. Sometimes therapy helps. Sometimes we need medication. And that’s okay. What’s not okay is giving in to the darkness forever. What’s not okay is depriving the world of a beautiful, unique soul like yourself.

If you are suffering from depression, self-harming, or considering self-harm or even suicide, I want you to get help. Please talk to someone. Anyone. Be it a friend, a teacher, a parent, a neighbor, a counselor. Anyone at all. Reach out to organizations like To Write Love On Her Arms, S.A.F.E. ALTERNATIVES® (800-DONTCUT), The Trevor Project (866-4-U-TREVOR), the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (800-273-TALK), or the Suicide Hotline (800-SUICIDE). Reach out to your fellow Minions, your family…and me, of course.

Because the world is a far better place with you in it. With me in it. With us in it.

Let’s get through this – whatever it is – together.

I love you, Minion. Stay with me.

Yours in Eternity,

Z
